Here are two wonderful weeks rolled into one! We enjoyed having shape creatures walk among us, as well as finding 2D and 3D shapes everywhere. We loved writing haiku's about butterflies and researching non-fiction texts to write a research paper. We were all very excited when Param got promoted to a head librarian! Most wonderful of all, was working in groups to write new fairy tales!
Our Good Citizens!
These research projects are one of my favorite things we do in first grade! The kids get to pick out a non-fiction text on their lexile level. Then, they read their text a few times on the hunt for facts. When they find facts they like the mark them with a sticky note. After that, they go back and write their fact on the sticky note in their own words OR use quotations. They used the writing process and took their sticky notes to write out a clear plan for their writing so that they could write a rough draft. Once they edited and revised their writing they wrote out a final draft! They worked so hard on these projects and did exceptional work!
