See us Delve Into Week Twelve

It's been an exciting week! We finished up our study of geography with landforms patterns and dances. In reading we read all about baby wild animals and how their parents take care of them. Many of us published our autobiographies and we all played a game of futbol! Perhaps the most exciting part of this week was the start of our new word study program!

(Be sure to click on the RESOURCES & INFORMATION page for more information on how to practice words at home).

Landforms

I think this was the highlight of my week! We decided to practice our landforms in a fun and kinesthetic way. We were all laughing so hard!! What a great way to end our unit on geography!

Sing It!

Reading Street incorporates lots of different ways to learn about a topic. Here we sing our song from this week.

Outdoor Classroom

We had to take advantage of the fall weather once again this week. We took our writing/reading outside and worked for a bit. Then we had a big brain break! We practice teamwork, good sportsmanship, and exercised our heart!

Frog! Word practice!

Word Study

This is what it looks like to study words in our classroom. On Monday our word masters got a set of words to cut and sort.

(Be sure to click on the RESOURCES & INFORMATION page for more information on how to practice words at home).

They were challenged to come up with more words that could possibly live in their sorts. They made a list of these words in their word study journals. Every day there is a writing portion to word study, in addition to sorting, this was the writing for Thursday.

TAP IT OUT! This is such a great strategy for kiddos to use when blending sounds. You can see how Akira is using her fingers and blending out each sound. Click on the link to see her in action.

With the word study there are some FREE activities that act as an extension. One of them is a word hunt around the room, in books, or in brain.

They found the word "pad." Absolutely incredible!!

Week Eleven: Painting and Planting!

What an exciting week we had! Thank you for all of your support this past week with our Fall Fluency Fair, parent teacher conferences, and curving the candy highs. You guys are awesome! We were so happy to have so many wonderful visitors join our classroom. Here is a peak into our week!

 Chief Editors @ Work

Our chief editors are busy at work editing their autobiographies! We are hoping to be published autobiography authors by next week! This has been a very long self-regulated project! We are excited to share them with you! I love hearing them read their writing out loud and pick out their edits!

Practicing reading through rhymes!

We love having parents volunteer in workshop!

Congratulations to our Proud Patriots!!

New Math Centers

We've got new math centers that help us practice the addition and subtraction strategies we're learning.

Pumpkin Study

Thanks to Scholastic, we learned about article text-features through an awesome pumpkin study! I loved the rich vocabulary we shared and deep, critical thinking.

We loved hearing back from our pen pal Mr. Holland and Mrs. Landis! The kids were extremely impressed by the art that he sent and they couldn't wait to get their hands on the cute book and snuggley animal she sent!

Practicing number bonds and fact families in our leaves.

 More Math!

Plants!

Every community needs wildlife! Mrs. Euhus (Mrs. Kimes mom) came and did a mini-lesson on plants and how to pot them! We are already breathing deeper!  Thank you Mrs. Euhus for such a precious donation to our community!

Stained Glass!

We talked about the history of stained glass and discussed where we have seen it before. We tied in our knowledge of the continents and dug a little deeper. We worked with spacial reasoning, scissors, and art to create fall theme "stained glass" art! The final products are hanging in our classroom!

Mr. Kime came to help!

Fall Fluency Fair

Thank you all for making our Fall Fluency Fair such a success! We enjoyed reading with people we love! We especially enjoyed all the delicous snacks! Thank's to all who participated!
